Balancing What I Share & Don't Share On Social Media.

S O C I A L  M E D I A.

We ALL have a love-hate relationship with it.

We’re all on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snpachat, Insta-stories, Pinterest, etc.

And we all love to use it. Whether we’re the ones posting, or we’re just viewing what others post. I mean, do we ever get sick of seeing food pictures? How many times are we going to see another snap of Pumpkin Spice Lattes with the hashtag #basicbitch? Or my personal favourite, a boomerang of glasses clinging?

As a blogger, I’m always on social media. Whether I’m tweeting about an event I’m attending, or literally just snapping my dinner plans. The one thing I always get asked is if I ever take a break from social media or if I ever get sick of it or if there are somethings I keep personal?

The answer to all of that is, yes. (Although, some of my friends would beg to differ. HA.)

Side note: If I show up late to work, my coworkers check Snapchat first. If I haven’t snapped anything, they think I’m dead…

Nonetheless, I do take breaks from social media, I do get sick of it, and I DEFINITELY keep things private.

But because I’m a blogger, I enjoying sharing things on social media. I feel closer to my followers when I do. Especially with Snapchat and Insta-stories being so raw and real, I feel like I can really connect with you guys. I love the comments I receive, the personal DMs, and questions I get from you guys. It’s real. Without social media, we wouldn’t be able to connect so easily.

This is why I LOVE social media so much. I can go into all the reason I don’t like it, but for the most part, it’s amazing. It brings people together. I get to meet like-minded bloggers and connect with them. There have been countless occasions where I’ve reached out to other bloggers on certain things, asked them questions about a specific topic, or was just curious about a post of theirs. It’s nice to use a platform like Instagram or Snapchat to be able to connect with people who we don’t even know. We can connect with people from other countries! We live in a time that’s FULL of opportunity, so why not get on social media?

I mean yes, social media is being used in all negative ways as well. Which I cannot understand WHYYY. There’s a lot of online bullying going on, a lot of dick pics people are sending (this one really needs to stop), and just a lot of stupid shit in general. Like, why?! What about me says, “please send a dick pic my way...”

Another topic on social media is this notion of 'social envy.' This is HUGE. We believe that others lead happy lives because they post pictures of them in happy situations. And we actually get jealous of their 'happy lives.' Guys, Instagram is staged! Think about this: No one is ever going to post photos of them crying after a fight with their significant other, or them dealing with depression, or a heartbreak. People ONLY ever post happy pictures. So no, their lives aren't perfect. They just don't want to share the unsettling things in their lives. Because why would they? Just remember that the next time you think 'oh man, she lives the perfect life.' Because she doesn't. She just wishes to share the good things in her life, and keep the other stuff, private.

Anyway, I love seeing people use social media for the right reasons. I love seeing bloggers connect, I love seeing people bring awareness to mental health issues, and I never get sick of seeing a good flatlay pic.

Getting back to what I share and don’t share on social…

What people share on social media is their prerogative. So, stop judging. If someone wants to share 490735734 pumpkin spice lattes in a boomerang all day, everyday, let them. Don’t be a judgy fuck. If it makes them happy, who cares? If you don’t like it, unfollow them.

It’s the same thing with selfies. If someone is taking a selfie, it means they actually like the way they look. They’re not somewhere hating their body. Isn’t that a good thing? We go around encouraging people to love themselves, yet we shame them for taking selfies. It’s kind of contradicting if you think about it.

If you want to take a selfie, do it. Please, PLEASE don’t give a shit what people think.

There are things I like to keep private. Most of my life is public. Not going to lie. That’s because it’s the nature of my job. As a blogger, you’re expected to share. You share things you like, things you don’t like, products you’re trying, your friends, your boyfriend, what you’re eating, where you’re going, etc. The list goes on. I’m not very public when it comes to my family and relationships. Those things are important to me, and as much as I’d like to share everything with you guys, I’d also like to keep a few things to myself. That’s not to say that I’m hiding anything. I just need to find a balance of what I share and not share. That’s all.

It's a good thing to keep some things to yourself.

Anyway. I just wanted to share my thoughts on social media with you guys, because I do get a lot of questions about it. I think it's GREAT. Many people don't like it and don't use it, and I think that's fine. I think when you use social, you need to find a good balance.

And for the love of God, let's stop with the dick pics. LOL.

What are you thoughts on social media? I'd love to know what you guys think...

Bye for now!

Xx, kim

People should share stuff to social media but at their limit, I mean there is no need of posting your private life in social media. The evil eye is a real man.
