30th Birthday Real Talk: What I've Learned.

BACKKKK from Vegas!

I promise I’ll do a full Vegas recap for you guys, soon.

But for now, and since I just turned 30, it only makes sense to be TOTALLY basic and do one of those ‘life lesson’ posts…(here's last year's post)

You know, reflecting on life, what I’ve learned this past year, what not to do, etc. I’m just passing on some wisdom, that’s all.

Turning 30 this year, I’ll be honest, was a very difficult pill to swallow. It’s just NOT a nice number…but then again, it’s JUST a number. Right?

That’s what most (positive) people say anyway….

And the others say, “it’s all downhill after 30. Hangovers last 2 days, wrinkles come faster, one French fry and you’ll need 45 minutes on the treadmill, blah blah blah” LOL. I resonate more with these (realistic) people.

I kid, I kid. I’m staying positive, and having faith that 30 will be a great year and that I won’t need botox (finger crossed). My anti-aging creams and excessive use of oils have done me well thus far.

Okay, so let’s jump right into a few things that I’ve learned this year. I’ve come across quotes in the last year that led me to write this post. So I’m going to share that.

"What you think of me, is none of my business"

FUCKING LOVE THIS QUOTE. There are too many people who worry about what others think of them. I honestly say, “fuck it.” You can’t please everyone. You need to do you, everyday, and that’s all. What others think, should really not bother you. You’re always going to meet people who will love you, love what you do, and respect you. And then you’ll meet some people who will only love you to your face, and then talk shit when you leave the room.

And let me tell you, THAT’S FINE! You’re giving them something to talk about. Let them talk. There are negative people all over the world. And if you think you’re going to make them positive, you’re not. That’s not your job.

Everyone talks shit. It’s human nature. You can’t go around being a positive person ALL THE TIME. It will drain you, trust me. Some days you want to just be a negative Nancy bitch, and that’s okay.

Everyone has their days.

So, again, what you think of me, is really NONE of my business. J

"People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime"

Another quote that really resonated with me this year, is this one. Because as you get older, you’ll start to realize that not everyone you meet will stay in your life. Friends, relationships, etc. may not last forever, and you need to move on. It’s the harsh truth, but it IS the truth. And the sooner you accept it, the happier you’ll be. I’ve had to deal with this a number of times in my life with friendships, long-term relationships, and even short-term relationships. It’s not easy to let go sometimes, however, in the long run, you’ll realize why that person came into your life in the first place. Maybe it was to teach you something, maybe it was to help you grow in someway, or maybe it was something else…

So instead of feeling sad, channel your feelings to be thankful. I know I’m thankful for every single person that has entered my life, whether they have stayed or not. Because in one way or another, they have made an impact in your life, and for that, you should be thankful.

"Don't lie, don't make excuses, don't over-explain yourself. Just simply say, NO"

I feel like at 30, I’ve gotten really good at this. Saying ‘no’ is actually a skill that you have to learn and master. Like Mark Manson says, “you only have a limited number of fucks to give, choose them wisely.” You don’t have to say yes to everything and everyone. Learn to say ‘no’ without feeling guilty. You need to respect and take care of yourself. I’ve learned that saying ‘no’ is not a bad thing. If you don’t want to do something for someone, just say no. You only have 24 hours in a day, and if you’re anything like me, 8 hours goes into sleeping. The rest of the time you’re busy living your life, either working, going to the gym, seeing your family/friends, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and when all that’s done, all I want to do is chill out in silence.

We don’t have enough hours in the day to say ‘yes’ to everything and everyone. So, don’t feel guilty about saying no! Take care of your well-being first.

"Stop doing shit you hate"

REALLY, THOUGH. Enough is enough. Quit the job you hate. Get out of the relationship that’s not working. Say goodbye to a bad habit. Just stop doing shit you hate. Life is too short to be doing things you’re not enjoying. If something is stressing you out daily, why would you want to continue doing it?

It may take you a while to figure out what makes you happy, and that’s okay. Don’t settle for something that’s not worth settling for. Continue to find out what is best for you, what puts a smile on your face everyday. And then do just that!

It’s really very simple, guys. If it doesn’t make you happy, just stop.

Okay, that’s all my words of wisdom for you today.

On another note, I'm slightly living in this grey, sort of maxi dress lately! Obsessed with the back of it (mainly because I don't have to wear a bra) and overall it's the comfiest dress in my closet, currently. I'm linking it below. And just an FYI...it's $9.99. NO JOKE.

Who’s got any more advice for this 30 year old? I mean, deep down, we all know I’m 80…

On that note, I’m going to take my glass of wine to bed, and call it a night.

I also want to thank each and every one of you that took time out of your lives to wish me a happy birthday. Your messages, words, texts, phone calls, PMs, DMs, tweets, & comments did not go unnoticed. The love really poured in on my birthday, which made turning 30 slightly easier…

Luv you all!

Xx, kim

Love these words, thank you as I'll need them as I prep myself for my own birthday just 6 months away! GAH. I really love the one about choosing to focus on what makes you happy. It's a work in progress for sure, but it's important to work towards it. Change what isn't working, don't settle, harness the power you have to do something about it and make that leap. Love it!

Hope your birthday was as fabulous as you are, and you need to tell me where this purple smoke came from...xo
