My 5-Day Juice Cleanse With Pulp & Press.

Okay, so as you guys know, I've been on a 5-day juice cleanse with Pulp & Press. A company from London, ON. that has raw, organic, cold press juices.

Before I get into the post, let me tell you a bit more about their juices:

Each of their raw, organic juices are created using an industrial grade, hydraulic cold press juicer. A cold press juicer does not introduce heat or oxygen, producing the purest, most nutrient dense juice. Their juices have 3-4 pounds of fresh, organic produce in every bottle.

They also have a variety of programs depending on what kind of cleanse you want to do. I, of course chose 'The Chew,' a 5-day juice cleanse WITH food. This means, I was allowed to eat along with my cleanse. I really can't do without food. I'm a foodie.

Overall, I would say I'm a pretty healthy eater. I make healthy choices whenever possible, but balance is KEY for me. This week I kept an extra eye on what I was eating. I also cut out coffee and chocolate this week. I also didn't have anything deep fried. I cooked A LOT. Everything was either baked or grilled. Lots of chicken, fish, green veggies like broccoli, and brussel sprouts. My salads had a mix of arugula and spinach, avocado, sesame seeds, apple, and feta cheese. I ALWAYS make my own dressing. There is so much crap in store bought dressing, I just CAN'T. Always try making your own. There are so many awesome recipes online. Here are my faves

I also just purchased a zucchini spiralizer, and made zucchini pasta! Which is a game changer. We'll need a full post for that one. But seriously, if you love pastas as much as I do, you'll want to get one of these, asap. I would basically eat pasta everyday of my life...if I could. Unfortunately, pasta has a TON of carbs in it, and isn't the healthiest for you. I found that zucchini pasta was a GREAT substitute.

Okay, totally going off track here.

Let's talk about the juice cleanse in more detail:

DAY 1: Everyday I was required to drink four juices. Day one was a couple green juices, and a couple beet juices. If you were following along on Instastories ( @thechicconfidential ) then you know that the beet ones weren't my favourite. I'm not a HUGE beets fan. It's definitely an acquired taste! However, it being day one, I pushed through ALL the juices. I started right at 8:30am. Skipped my coffee, which I usually have every morning, and had a juice instead. Along with the juices, you're supposed to also drink your regular 8 glasses of water. Now that's A LOT of liquids. Consuming this many juices, also made me slightly forget about water. So, once I got home around 5:00pm, I had drank about 3 juices, and had one more left.

At this time, I also had a minor headache. I couldn't figure out whether it was the lack of water, or the fact that I hadn't drank a coffee in the morning and was craving my....caffeine fix? It could have been both, I guess? Aside from the slight headache, I was actually feeling great. Dinner was a small piece of fish, a big salad, and my last juice of the day.

DAY 2: Day two was very similar to day one. Skipped my coffee and drank a juice. Most of the morning juices was a variation of green juice. They had a lot of kale, cucumber, celery, apple, etc. I wasn't having any breakfast, as the juice for me, was more than enough. I also found that by swapping my coffee in for a juice, I had way more energy. You'd think it would be the opposite, but having a juice first thing in the morning was doing me good! I wasn't even craving a coffee....

DAY 3: By day three, having consumed eight juices in the last 48 hours, I was feeling great. Eating healthy, no coffee, no alcohol, and exercising a couple times a week. However, when day three rolled around, I knocked off a beet juice from my plan. The beet juices weren't the yummiest for me, and I was kind of struggling through them. LOL. Don't worry, they didn't go to waste! My co workers helped me drink the rest of the beet juices. :)

DAY 4: By day four, to be VERY honest, the cleanse was getting hard. I understand one or two juices a day, but, four juices a day is a lot. However, this is what a cleanse is all about. Before you start a cleanse, make sure you're mindfully set for what you're getting into. This was a complete trial for me. I knew that the month of December I had a lot to eat and drink, so I really wanted January to be a clean eating, drink-free month. Day four was hard. Not going to lie. I was struggling to finish some of the juices. I was having about 3 juices and giving away my beet juices. Really wasn't for me.

DAY 5: By day five, I was ready to throw in the towel and call it quits. I didn't. But, I wanted to. It was a matter of another four more juices, and then I would feel GREAT. Like I'd finished something really, really hard. And, we all know that can be a good feeling. So, slowly but surely, I powered through the juices. Not quite finishing them all, but most of them. And the end result was amazing.

It honestly was not as easy as I thought it would be. If you go into a juice cleanse, thinking it's going to be easy, think again. You really have to be mentally prepared for something like this. I urge you ALL to try this out, because at the end of the week, you feel energized, healthy, and overall great. I feel like I've taken care of my body. You guys know how particular I am about my health, skin, etc. I'd never do anything to harm that. I live a very balanced lifestyle, and this juice cleanse is something I hope to do once or even twice a year. Your body needs a break from all the crap we consume every once in a while. January was a good time for me to start.

Okay, so who else has done a juice cleanse? Hard? Easy? Weigh in!

And if you guys have any specific questions on the cleanse, feel free to leave them in the comments or email me. I'd love to answer anything!

Happy juicing.

Xx, kim

I have done the Master Cleanse many times. It consists of lemon juice, cayenne pepper, water, and maple syrup. You drink 6-12 glasses a day, salt water or a laxative tea in the am, and laxative tea in the pm. The minimum they say you should do it is 10 days. The first time I did it, I was planning on doing it for 10 days and felt so good that I did it for the maximum of 40 days! I have also done it 30 days, 15, and 10. I have to say that even though I was able to do the Master Cleanse for so long, I think juice cleanses are harder for me! There is something about the concoction that keeps me more full than a juice cleanse.

Thanks for sharing girl! What an accomplishment! I don't know if I could go 30-40 days of what you did, but I do LOVE lemon water with cayenne pepper. It's one of my favourite things to drink. Especially when I'm sick.

Thanks for sharing!! :)

Katherine - eating was the best kind of cleanse for me! You have to do what works for you. I couldn't imagine not eating for 3-5 days.
