Shoes, Shoes, & More Shoes! The Bata Shoe Museum.

Attention all shoe lovers: If you have a passion for history, love shoes, and want to know all about them, including traditions from around the world and how footwear has come along through the years, then The Bata Shoe Museum is an absolute MUST for you this summer! With four floors to discover and some unique footwear to see, the museum will not disappoint!

I can definitely admit to being shoe-a-holic. I really cannot deny that. So, when the opportunity of visiting the museum that held over 12,500 shoes, was brought to my attention, I knew I had to see this for myself. I can also tell you, you don't necessarily have to love shoes to appreciate the museum. There is so much to learn about the history of footwear here.

1. All About Shoes: Footwear Through The Ages
2. Beauty, Identity, Pride: Native North American Footwear
3. Collected In The Field: Shoemaking Traditions From Around The World
4. Out Of The Box: The Rise Of Sneaker Culture

They even have a floor for kids to play around and a bunch of shoes that people can try on!

Paduka's from India. Probably the most uncomfortable flip-flop ever!

The determined and passionate collector of the Bata Shoe Museum is Sonja Bata. She has been sourcing the globe and collecting shoes for decades!

The have a section dedicated to shoes from the 1910s all the way to today.

Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962)

Marilyn Monroe once said “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot”.
Whether this statement is true or not, these sexy, red leather stiletto-heeled shoes give a sense of the
sensual image cultivated by Monroe, who wore them in 1957 in Montreal.

A floor dedicated to Native North American Footwear.

We got to feel these, and I can't tell you how soft they felt!!

Indian Chappals.

We all own at least one pair of sneakers, so this floor was amazing to see! They had everything from designer sneakers, to pairs that celebrities & athletes wore. I can tell you that Shaquille O'Neal has a size 23 foot!!

Sneakers by the famous Mr. Christian Louboutin.

So if you haven't been to the museum yet, I suggest you put this on your to-do list for this Summer. It was a great learning experience, and an absolute pleasure to see such beautiful shoes!

Some helpful tips:

- Start from the very bottom floor and work your way up. It makes more sense historically.
- Give yourself at least an hour. We were there for about 1.5 hours.
- Ask what time the shoe presentation is at. There is usually a young lady who will go through some pairs of shoes and tell you a bit about them. You can also touch and see the shoes more closely this way.
- There are a few short documentaries along the way. Stop and watch them, they are very interesting!

Thanks to The Bata Shoe Museum for hosting us.

All I hear is actually a number of whining about something you could fix if you ever werent too busy searching for attention. go
